"Heaven Knows is a yearning expression of unrequited love expressed in cataclysmic metaphors.”
—Amelia Mason, NPR Tiny Desk Contest judge and WBUR arts reporter.
Nikhil Dasgupta is a Boston-based musician known for his deeply personal songwriting and winter-folk sound. Steeped in lush harmonies and ambient undertones, his lyrically driven songs explore the quiet depths of human experience, blending raw emotion with thoughtful craftsmanship.
Dasgupta first established himself as a fixture in Portland, ME’s songwriting scene, leading the indie-folk band SnugHouse to sold-out shows, festival appearances, and regular features on popular TV and radio outlets, including News Center Maine’s 207 and WCLZ. After a yearslong hiatus due to chronic illness, Dasgupta returned to music in 2025 with his folk-noir ballad, “Heaven Knows,” which premiered on WBUR. The station had previously named his performance of the song one its five favorite 2024 NPR Tiny Desk submission from Massachusetts. In 2025, Dasgupta was invited to perform at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado as one of 10 Telluride Troubadour Contest Finalists.
Motivated by his experience with illness, Dasgupta is pioneering a subversive new model for the working musician: one that rejects an economy that glorifies burnout and prioritizes everyone but the artist. Favoring in-person communities and local music scenes over conventional channels, Dasgupta is building a grassroots career that celebrates health, community, and the abundant human spirit.
“Heaven Knows” is available now on all streaming platforms.
